I will take it. Relaxed the shoulders. Lead with the hips. Kicked the knees a little higher landing my feet on the front (balls area of the foot). No ankle pain. Shaved 5 minutes off my 5 miler this AM. For me this is big. I am guessing the new training is helping with more of an effort on hills, getting off the roads when I can, and also adding some 1 mile fun runs with the kids. This AM's run was also the first back to back 2 days in a row in awhile as well. Tomorrow I will take a day off.
Interesting also I have changed the diet as well. I have cut caffeine out. I have weened away from all soft drinks with Diet Non Caffeine Cola's. I am down to only one can a day. I have also basically become a vegetarian. Not completely. I am going 3-4 days in row before I eat any meat. Plus, the meat is Chicken or Fish. NO RED MEAT. So, basically I am back at my diet for most of college years, 20's and early 30's.
Watched a movie with my wife recently called Baby Mama. Fun show for the most part. Not the best movie ever made, but entertaining. There was a scene making fun of so-called Raw Vegan's. Restraunt scene had them in Raw Vegan establishemnt. Instead of bread they were given a unbaked, yeast ball? Crazy? Wow, I guess I like bread - really good BAKED bread too much. Eating yeast dough balls? Little too extreme or just sick and wrong to eat unbaked bread. I understand eating raw vegetables is a good thing. But, Yeast Balls? I respect my Vegan friends. However, Raw Vegans? Not there yet, and not convinced this is necessary in anyway.
I am not a Vegan. I like eggs. I like cheese. I also like Calamari, scallops, shrimp, good crab, muscles and really well prepared Greek Chicken (grilled or roasted). So, I guess I am part time Vegetarian. I have been drinking unsweetened Rice and Soy Milk over Cow Milk though. However, since this is a world where you are one or not - I guess not many would even consider me a vegetarian. Too bad. I really do understand and respect where they are coming from nutritionally and ideologically speaking.
So, tomorrow a day off. I am really interested in more trail running as well now. However, living in Vegas has some limits on this one. There are some great trail areas in the Red Rocks Preservation area. I have hiked them with my kids. However, the trails - hard as rock - and for the most part you are running on just that. I am not seeing how the trails here will provide any relief to the joints. However, it does get you away from the City and out being apart of nature. I will explore this more.
Not sure what race I am leaning towards right now. In fact, it is hard with my busy wife's work schedule and my schedule to work in the perfect race. I do have a few on the radar. What I think will happen - last minute, or week before, if we have the time - I do one of two in October.
Need to run!
